I was thinking if this setup would work on my CDK17 and reducer which has practically no backfocus. How thin is the AO unit/OAG? There's a chance it may fit and AO on a high QE KAF8300 sized chip may be a nice unit.

Hi Greg, the SX AO-LF unit is specified as requiring 38 mm back focus, or 70 mm with the bundled OAG.
You can use an alternative/thinner OAG with the AO, but you still need a Lodestar for it to work with MaximDL.

Greg, this gadget might help fit stuff in. http://www.sxccd.com/the-sx-mini-wheel-oag
Is there any way to put the AO before the reducer? Might be totally impractical, but could be worth a least considering.

Thanks for the links Ray. I'll have to find out about the sensitivity to spacing for the reducer if that can be done.

Greg,
Why are you more interested in the Trius over the SX-H694? Does it not have even smaller pixels? With a 17" I would have thought even a little bit bigger would possibly confer some advantage.
Peter
PS: Also of some possible interest. I have been in contact with Richard Wright. He writes a lot of the drivers for Software Bisque and I think has designed the CAO(?). He said that he intends to write an X2 driver for SX cameras pretty soon. I also asked about the SX-AO unit and he said he wanted to do that as well, but wouldn't say when. The cameras he thought maybe in a month or two. It would be nice not to have to use MaxIm just to control the AO. Supposedly CCDSoft will run the AO but I'm not sure anyone has ever succeeded.

Further to the software side, PHD2 is said to have SX-AO support but I haven't tried it yet.

Trius model has argon and 3 USB output ports which is handy like a FLI Proline.
Same 694 chip so same pixel size. I think you were looking at a different chipped model. The 694 is the one as its 77% QE and very high performance with low noise.

You are correct! I actually edited that post of mine on Wednesday and my edit was lost seemingly in the HD failure.... Yes, the Trius is very nice!!
