Here is my try for NGC6744 from my light polluted site in North Curl Curl. I can only catch sight of NGC6744 when it passes over the roof of my neighbor's house until it hides behind a tree directly South of my setup. So, I've got about 3 hours/night. Now with the Moon on the way more data will need to wait.

TEC140/PMX Moravian G2-8300, Astroniomik LRGB + Hutech IDAS LP

I combined 3 hours of luminance with 3 hours of RGB to make the luminance channel = 6 hours total. RGB are each 1 hour 1x1. I now very much wish I had done RGB 2x2 and will do so when the moon goes away. I'll be curious to compare this result. In the past I have not been very happy binning colour at 2x2, but perhaps I need to try again on such a dim object as this. I have worked hard to get the colour on this one but I don't think I've succeeded very well. I wanted more blueish in the arms but got either greenish or reddish. I used HLVG but still think there is a greenish tinge. I think I just need more colour data to do any better.

Thanks for looking and your comments are always valued.

Peter

Looks good to me.
That's a nice catch.

A great result under the conditions I think. Its a dim galaxy even with a 17 inch scope. Also light pollution is going to be greenish often so perhaps that is what you are seeing. I wonder if an IDAPs filter in front of the other filters would help (screwed onto the camera itself before the filter wheel if possible?).

I am surprised it turned out this well. Its really a dark site target.

Thanks Greg!! Your proposal is the way I am imaging. The Hutec IDAS is actually mounted in front of all the filters. Even so, I do get some gradient in R and G...probably just LP from non Sodium or Mercury source. PS I saw your older image of NGC6744 from a few years back. Wow that was DEEP. I thought I should just give up!!

You did well, Peter. Add me to the list of people who are surprised you got anything at all from less than dark skies

A minor niggle Peter. Your web link tags the images NGC1674.

Otherwise nice.

Thanks for the compliment, sorry that was not the intended effect and I see you recovered!

Send me a PM and I give you a step by step gradient handling that works like a bomb that may be very helpful. I use it with my CDK17 as it has a hot spot that does not correct that well with flats.

Greg.

Great looking galaxy photo Peter, especially from North Curl Curl.
