Hi guys,

http://www.lumicon.com/mfs.htm

My lumicon filter selector arrived today....I have some issues with it and wanted to warn any future perspective buyers.

Firstly the quality of the make is very good and the actual selctor mechanism is also good...so whats the warning for well.

1) The 2" sleeve that would normaly fit a 2" focuser is very short and does not hold the selector in place very well...especialy once you add some weight like camera's.

2) Baader filters do not fit the selector...the thread size is correct but the Baader side walls are too deep...wont fit inside the selector...this is more of a personal problem then Lumicons and I will have to find a way to reduce the depth of the filters...ouch....any recomendations...and dont say a hacksaw.

Have you considered a stepping ring, you can buy them from any size thread to another depending on what you need, i use them constantaly and have a fist full for any application :)

hahaha Leon...yes that would make it even deeper...the diameter and filter size is correct..just wont accomidate those deep walled filters...like the baader range....thanks for thinking about it any way Leon.

Hi Tony

Sorry to hear of the bad news. The only suggestion I have is as follows:

If the sliding filter holder is a thick’ish piece of metal, could you get a machine shop to mill out say, half the threaded section, to a diameter large enough to accept the body of each filter? Would this leave sufficient thread to hold each filter securely?

If this is possible, would that make the overall filter ring height low enough once the filter is screwed into the holder?

Good luck

Dennis

Dennis...it wont work...the actual filter holder selector is only as thick as the thread of a filter..very thin...the only way it will fit is if the baader filters were cut down in depth.

With the baader filters they make them so you can screw multiple filters ontop of each other.

There is ample room with all other filters I have just not the Baader....where as a normal filter may be at a guess 2 or 3mm thick..the baader would be atleast double or even triple the depth...I am meaning the metal threaded ring the filter sits in not the actual filter it self.

I would hate to have to grind them down....may need a pro.
