Hi all,

I have started to build the guide scope rings for my 4" Newtonian to sit on top of my 8" scope after I get the mount. Going to look like a double barreled cannon after I have finished it..

The 1/4" BSW Bolts will be removed after I have welded the tube bases on. then I will mark out the positions for the 3 nylon bolts which I need to finish. Major over kill in design using 200mm ID, 10mm thick tubing that is 25mm wide. It will all be powdercoated along with the pier after it has been completed.

around 880 grams each ring so far. Add another 40 grams or there abouts for the the bolts.

Ok, so you are using mild steel and not aluminium for the rings.

yep, didnt have any aluminium spare, so got the next best thing, I can always add a few holes to lighten the load if need be.

OKay here is the almost final part of making the rings, I have yet to source some 1/4" 20TPI couplings so I can put on the nylon tips but otherwise it is completed. I did a weight test on it and it came in at 1kg lighter than the 20kg I thought. Thats 19kg total weight incase you wondered :P

Nice set of rings you have!

If you need to save some money just be creative and find something plastic that will slip on the end of the bolts so you dont need the nylon inserts.

For example pen lids, plastic bottle caps etc.
