Halletts Cove Milky Way

After only a handful of clear nights in what seems like an eternity of cloudy skies, I checked the weather radar and headed off down to the coastal suburb of Halletts Cove, South Australia.
I was keen to test out my new Samyang 14mm 2.8 lens on the 500D.
This is a 2 image vertical pano.
There was considerable light pollution there which resulted in a bit of detail loss in the Milky Way but provided some light for the foreground.

Very nice. Thank you for sharing it with us. I lived at Hallet cove some years ago and know that very rock. Spent many hours walking that beach with my Daughter.

Thanks Martin. It's a real gem of a spot from what i have seen and am yet to fully explore the area. I will go back in the day time to get a better understanding of the area and familiarize myself with it.
I did not want to go falling off any cliffs in the darkness, not without getting the shot first :lol:

Very nice result. Slightly oversharpened though.

One of the better results I have seen from an APSc camera.Sometimes they struggle to get enough signal within the max 30 seconds without tracking or stacking.

The Samyang 14mm F2.8 has cemented itself as the practical king of nightscape photography. Bang for buck nothing else comes close.

I just got the Samyang 14mm aswell. Not so much for the 60Da but for the 6D dad just got. I'm heading up his way next week so hope to got some good weather for some nightscaping, although its full moon, didn't plan that well :rolleyes:

thank you. Yes i agree. Although i love the 500D to bits ( and it has been in bits in the repair shop):lol: i am starting to see it struggling to keep up with what i want from it. It is my first DSLR and it has done me good. Can't wait to upgrade.
I did go in a bit heavy with the sharpening, thanks for the critique.
I am loving my lens. These past few mornings have seen it get a real work out:)


Cheers Rod. Have you thought about tracking the 14mm and 60D on top of your mount for a Milky Way wide field. Might be worth a go:thumbsup:
That's great that you can get a lend of a 6D. Like you said, now it's just the Moon and the clouds to wait on :)
