I was never happy with my M83 done with the Starfire :( , even though it
was featured on Universe Today:

http://www.universetoday.com/ (scroll down)

Sooooo I reprocessed it from scratch!(almost). This is what it should
look like....I think? :-)

I like it. This is a lovely galaxy and beautifully captured. I think that I can also almost make out the dust lanes in PGC 724525 and PGC 48132.

Hi Mike,

Can't see that much difference myself, but it may just be image scale.

It's also one of those things that because you know what you've changed, you can see it more easily. ASFAIC whatever looks good to you is what matters, it's your picture.

Yours also looks better than mine in that you've captured more detail, I was thinking that about 1000mm focal length would be just right for M83. My 8"LX200 with a 6.3 FR in line (1260mm) is just a bit too close. Looks like I've got to get a 0.5 FR for it.

Cheers

There are those that are good, those that are gooder, and then there is the gooderest.

As always its a very high standard you set Mike.

Thanks for sharing it.

Yes a very detailed image. I guess the SXV-H9 is similar to the Sbig cameras, and I note that they make a single shot colour model

Im gussing though it may be convienent shooting single shot images, the true LRGB process is still the best.

Thanks Ice Dudes

Glad you liked the reprocess :)

Tornado Scott, the SXV-H9 is a cooled CCD camera made for idiots who want to be able to produce masterpieces. Being a super quiet camera no darks are necessary while still having great sensitivity and high resolution capabilities like no DSLR has! smaller chip of course :D Not sure I'd ever go with a one shot though...?

Stuart, are you sure you were looking at the "old" version to make your comparison?

Here is the old version:

Here is the new version:

they are next to each other in that album, so if you bring the new version up and hit F11 on your keyboard, centre the image on your monitor and you can then then toggle between the two images using the "previous/next" button (use next first) top right corner of the screen. :)

Hi Mike,

Actually I was comparing to the picture in Universe today, so it was the image scale that stuffed me up.

Yes, the reprocessed is heaps better, brought out the detail in the outer arms.

Oh and the F11 thing only works in IE I think (certainly not in Safari on a Mac!!). You'll also be pleased to know that the new frisbee runs the SBig etc. just fine as a Wintel PC, then when I want to photoshop, just reboot in OSX, this is possibly the most useful computer I have ever bought. When you make it down to Melbourne I'll have to show you that Mac's are good for things other than chucking around ;-)

Cheers
