I recently sold a eyepiece to a member in Perth and i paid extra and sent it by registered mail on the 22/7 and now 11 days later he still hasn't got it, apparently it was sent by road not air.
I could of put it on a Greyhound bus and got it there in 2 days or road my push bike quicker than Aust Post.

Yep they sure do. I sent a T-Adapter and T-Ring through eBay. The buyer received the item but someone ripped it open and stole the T-Ring and the T-Adapter had the missing little screw. Took it back to Australia Post and they took the package and gave the poor buyer a partial refund so they lost money in the end. They never gave back the adapter which we returned. It was being "investigated" for 3 weeks for them to give a partial refund and to keep the part that made it.

Pathetic service and they protect themselves in matters like this.

Dont even get me started.

I shipped a brand new iPhone 4s to them via Express 'Platinum' service and they lost it. Mind you i was sending it with great urgency to the Director of the company i work for.

Spent countless hours on the phone, had to provide reciepts. Took 3 months to get money back after a comedy of errors on their behalf. It was just a complete nightmare. Paying extra for the platinum service means jack.

Well rather than whinge here, why not contact the Postal Industry Ombudsman http://www.pio.gov.au/ ...............surely you have a better chance of getting some satisfaction .

If you really want something to complain about where shipping/couriers/etc., are concerned try dealing with Allied Express.

Before you start blaming Australia Post have a look at who has the contract. I belive it is a German firm from the name on the vans.

Well as you guys know I build light boxes for some of the members here, always send them registered via Aust Post, and thus far, touch wood, nothing damaged or missing. I always send them registered, which by the way has changed as all rego now means that a sig is required on delivery. Also before and I stand to be corrected on this, one was covered up to a certain value for loss or damage, now I believe you have to stipulate if you want cover on the article, and that is for extra dollars of course.

Hi Peter,

Post charges booklet, 8 April 2013, both for domestic letters and documents
and for domestic parcel post -

Registered post continues for letters and documents but for parcels has been replaced
by Signature on Delivery.

One can also take out Extra Cover at $1.50 per $100, or part thereof, up to $5,000.

Since April, regular Parcel Post now offers limited tracking, namely
"acceptance, in transit and delivered".

Australia Post state that delivery "timetables are guidelines only and based on reasonable expectations and experience.".

For Parcel Post between capital cities, they provide a guideline of "5 to 6
business days". Between other interstate locations "please ask at your local
Australia Post outlet".

On the front of Australia Post padded bags there is the "Dangerous Goods and
Aviation Security Statement". One must sign it otherwise the parcel may not
be put on an aircraft. By signing it the sender acknowledges that the article
may be carried by air and will be subject to aviation security and clearing
procedures.

If a postal item is taking a long time to arrive, it is sometimes wise for the recipient
to call the local post office. Sometimes the parcel will be waiting there if the postman or
local agent dropped the "parcel awaiting collection" postcard in the wrong letter box.

Auspost lost my renewed passport last week. The Australian Passport office sent it registered mail. The mailman tried to deliver it while I was at work, left a card but then the passport vanished and they couldn't find it at the post office. Registered or signature on delivery only protects you against the recipient falsely claiming they didn't receive it. Doesn't make the delivery any more reliable or the parcel any more trackable if they lose it.

Judging by the quantity of other people's mail I get in my mailbox, I told the passport office investigator that the mailman probably put it in someone else's mailbox by mistake. I've had about one piece of incorrectly addressed mail put in my mailbox every week over many years.

Many years ago, so much of my mail was going missing, I took a GPO box to "solve" the problem. $160 per year. It's better but by no means perfect. Early September one year a few years back my cousin sent me a wedding invitation to her October wedding. It was in an oversized envelope and wouldn't fit in the PO box. She eventually called to find out why I hadn't RSVP'd. The following February, three red collect cards appeared in my box on the same day all back dated 6 months to appropriately spaced dates the previous September. To add insult to injury, when I went in to collect, the clerk had the audacity to say,"you don't collect your mail very often do you."

I ordered an adaptor from a supplier a few weeks ago. Tracking showed it as delivered 3 days before I received it.

I would've used express post as they deliver overnight and no mucking around with your goods.
And use postage insurance

Well I hate to be the one to defend Auspost, but I've had a lot of stuff delivered over the last few months, and much more before that, none of it has gone missing inside Aus. For some strange reason something I ordered from China went via Switzerland, but you can't blame Auspost for that.

The parcel delivery guy knows me by sight now, he's great.

We occasionally get some incorrectly delivered mail, but there's two streets in the same postcode (vastly different suburbs though) with the same name, and one very close to us with a very similar name (Stanford vs Strathford), which seems to catch taxi drivers more than anyone.

They are also handling a lot of stuff, a small percentage must go wayward, human error I suppose.

Cheers
Stuart

:thumbsup:You are right there , I waited 3 weeks for an eyepiece lately , but have had stuff in 3 days from the same place ? go figure .
Its a hit and miss kind of thing , but I must say I have never lost anything , but 3 weeks was a bit stressful  .

There's nothing wrong with having a whinge on IIS to highlight a potential problem or to gain some emotional support.
A postie somewhere is keeping his ears warm with an IIS beanie of mine that never got here. Other than that I've had no trouble.

11 days is a long time Alan , hopefully it shows up Monday .

I had 8/9 days from the north coast to country Victoria so 11+ to perth from Townsville isn't a big stretch for there service standards these days .

Working in the post office many years back registered post was handled separately as the customer had paid for extra service and I guess they got it , we would have to sign in and out every movement of a registered piece of mail in the system , could easily get checked and balanced several times before it was delivered , gold , bulk deliveries of diamonds and grandpas ashes were all regulars , I'm not sure what happens these days though .

To be honest I've not had anything lost ever , But I've seen what a malfunctioning piece of machinery can in a blink of an eye do to a most well packed with love and care package , so always buy insurance

Yeah same here, then it happens. I sent a wheel to a guy and he didn't get it. Tracking said delivered, what do you do. They just washed their hands of it. You need tracking, sig on delivery and insurance to cover yourself.

OK so I know Australia is a BIIIIG country, but what on earth do they do with it for 11+ days?!?

Of course not, but I would like to think the OP or the potential recipient of the item had taken appropriate steps to find the item first and if you need a forum to find emotional support.................let's not go there:shrug:

Do you know that for a fact ;).

I can honestly say that I have never lost anything through Aust Post, touchwood.

There delivery time are a bit confusing though, I can get a parcel from Adelaide delivered the day after ordering it but a letter from Canberra to Wamboin can take 5 days (40km max). :confused2:

There's no way my beanie is languishing in a corner somewhere, it's far too valuable. Somewhere there's a motorbike postie wearing an IIS beanie - he's probably wearing a freezer suit and a pair of binoculars around his neck too :)
