Solar Full Disc in Ha 28/07/13

I had about 30 minutes of clear sky between the clouds but the seeing was poor. This is the first time in three week that I was able to see the sun. So here is my effort today taken with a Coronado SM40 fitted to the Tak FS-102, what a waste of good aperture but it was O.K. for the poor seeing conditions.

David, it was hard processing to get the prominences in the poor seeing conditions that were present. The image was composed of a 2-frame mosaic for the solar disc and a 2-frame mosaic for the prominences, then both mosaics were combined in PS to produce the final image.

Good stuff George. That is the way to get those proms. It's just personal preference but I like to see the proms on a black background...Even harder to do & still keep the proms distinct! My effort from today. It clouded out before I had a chance to do the disc.

John, with little data and poor seeing it is hard to process the prominences any further.

It looks like it's going to be a good day for imaging going buy this morning's sky conditions but as usual the clouds will roll in when the sun gets to a nice altitude for imaging.

I wouldn't call darkening the background 'processing' as such, George. Easy enough to do if one feels so inclined. Just alter the 'blacks' under 'selective colour' in PS. Must be done carefully of course.
