Coverage of the F1 Qualifying Session in Hungary starts on ONE HD on Saturday
27th July 2013 at 21:30 AEST on ONE HD.

Coverage of the race itself is on the Sunday starting at 21:40 on TEN.

Practice 1 is underway right now and Pirelli have brought the white-marked medium and
the yellow-marked softs for the very hot conditions with air temperatures expected to
reach a high of 36C on Saturday and 37C on the Sunday.

Pirelli have reverted to the 2012 construction of the tyres again using the Kevlar belts
which were used in Germany. However, they use the 2013 compounds which
are softer than those used in 2012. The 4.4km twisty circuit often has a dusty
surface and with the hot temperatures, it will be interesting to see what amount
of grip they provide.

Lewis Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix three times, more than
any other current driver. Alonso, Webber, Raikokonen and Button have also all
won here and perhaps interestingly, Vettel has never won in Budapest.

The BBC report that a new rule has been implemented which will give a car
a ten place grid penalty if it is sent out of the pits with a loose wheel.
It it occurs during practice or qualifying, the penalty will take place for the
race. If it takes place during the race, it will carry over to the next race.

Work is underway to come up with a device that will ensure a wheel cannot
come loose and this is expected to be introduced in the next two to three races.

Seems a bit harsh to penalise the driver so badly, not his fault at all. Seems like its all blown out of proportion. What I found scarier than the wheel coming off was the car rolling back down the hill unmanned. That could have ended very differently.

With these type of things like all dangerous sports they should know that the contributing factor to anything is ourselves and that mistakes and accidents will always happen. People die doing what they love and we shouldn't go penalising and wrapping everything in cotton wool for what was a freak accident.

Bring it on anyway. Interesting to see if Vettel will break another hoodoo track in a row.

The driver is part of the team,they are penalising the team not just the driver.
What do you want them to do? let the driver run around the circut without the car?;)

Hi Ron,

All I was saying is I think the penalty is way over the top for like I said a freak accident. I think the more appropriate reaction would have been to give a warning to red bull. The guy on the wheel is probably sacked and gone by now anyway and yeah like they said try to develop a system that works better. Not slap an over the top penalty on the driver.

You only have to look at Isle of Man TT racing. Every year since it started on average 2 people die every event. Professionals and joy riders alike but in no way has this stopped the event from continuing each year. It is about the only sport where men can still be men. I'm just a bit sick of the pc rubbish we have to put up with these days. A guy gets a scratch and everyone has a panic attack. Just let the guys get on with.

Go back to the days before F1 was made safer?

Jim Clarke Wolfgang Von Tripps Gill Vilnouve,ect
I think if you ask the teams and drivers,they will say they are happy with the safety regs.
Sir Jackey Stewart has been at the fore front of safety in F1 and I bet he would be in favour of the new regs.
BTW this is not the first time cars have been released without the wheel being secured properly, so now is the time to make sure that there is little chance of this happening again.
As for the TT,that is a different kettle of fish, they ride on public roads and no amount of safety regs can make up for rider error.
Take Moto GP they have great safety regs and few deaths.

It's interesting to see Grosjean up the sheets lately. Seems to have hit a purple patch.

Well done to Ricciardo too with another Q1 :thumbsup:and man no wonder Webber is leaving this year:(.

Hi Simmo,

It was funny to hear how surprised Lewis was to be on poll. :)

Ricciardo is really pushing himself for a chance at the Red Bull seat.

What is it with Mark's KERS? This has been going on for years.
It would have been interesting to hear that short interview the BBC had with him.
Anyway, let's hope they fix it overnight but it will be hard going for him to
battle his way up through the pack on a track with limited overtaking opportunities.

38C for the race in my homeland. Gotta be among the hottest races in F1 history.

Hi Seb,

I did a quick Google and it reached 40C in Argentina in 1955, which Fangio
fittingly won. But as for the hottest ever, I don't know. It often is in the low to
mid thirties for the races in Malaysia and Bahrain and thank goodness they
hold it at night in Singapore with that incredible humidity they have there.
So tomorrow's race might certainly be up there!

I visited the city of Budapest many years ago and enjoyed it.

Fabulous drive from Lewis and particularly given only yesterday that he said it
would be "a miracle" if he won it.

Plus when you see the identical car belonging to your team mate have its engine
blow and catch on fire, you would know your luck might run out at any moment as
well.

I thought, predictably, that Vettel would get the jump on Lewis at the very start,
like he and Webber did in Germany. But Vettel seemed to struggle.
It will be interesting to learn what the code "Fail 2 2 " refers to.

Great race,some really good overtaking and wheel to wheel racing.
Bodes well for the second part of the season:)
Things are looking a bit bleak for Ferrari.
But promising for Lotus.
