Many of us have commented about the disinterest of traditional media in reporting real science news (i.e. not just super moons and LHC allegedly causing black holes).

A group of scientists at The University of Queensland (many of whom I know and/or am friends with) have this week started an online petition to help the situation.

The idea is simple: it calls for Triple J, Australia's publicly-owned youth radio station, to include at least 20 seconds worth of science news reporting in their hourly news updates.

If you'd like to support this initiative, you can sign at the following link:

Another UQ academic has some more background information in the following article. Interestingly, a recent poll by the Australian National University found that Australians are in general more interested in hearing about science news than sports news. There's hope for us yet

Great idea, signed :)

But I always thought that TripleJ was by far the best of the popular stations in presenting science stories, I mean, no other station has a Dr Karl!

ABC QLD radio has Dr Karl on Wednesdays. That been said, ABC and Triple J are one and the same.
