Hi Asi,
With webcams for $100 or so giving us better planet photos than professional observatories had a decade ago, maybe we're just expecting too much

...so.... I've attached a photo of Jupiter from my much treasured 1962 copy of "Handbook for Telescope Making" - taken by an American amateur with state of the art eyepiece projection techniques on a 12" reflector.

Might make you feel better.

Thanks Graeme...I actually feel good to be able to drag the details present out. Nothing like honing ones skills on nasty seeing conditions!

Wow. The jetstream decided to really sock it to me by 11:30. Oh well, I'm in 'test mode' & trying a few different things so quality of image means zilch to me at this stage.
This is really testing out the 900nc to see what it's capable of & what it's not. Theres no way I could get these with the 840K in conditions such as these without onion rings or too much grain from upping the gamma to kill 'em I don't think. I'm finding out exactly how far I can up the gain before I get unexceptable grain in the final image, which seems to be around 85%. Theres a definite art to the settings to coincide with the conditions...as with any imaging device of course.

I'm really very happy with the 900nc! Love it. :)

Isnt' it amazing how much more detail can be now recorded than even in the last 20 years. The way these advances happen is driven by the more we get the more we want. These images would have been impossible back when Graeme's book was published.

So still a pleasing result Asi.
