The Chinese dragon and M83.

Hi,
The weather is crap at the moment, so it’s time for a repro and one image with limited data.
NGC 5189 planetary nebula in Musca, ( The Chinese dragon ) the other name for it. I only have 40 minutes data due to bad weather but it’s a fascinating object to image, such a beautiful shape!
After seeing Mikes, and Richards image I just had to have a go. I can’t get the HA regions to well with the unmodded DSLR but I’m still happy with it.
I’ve done what Richard did and supply the original full frame to show how small it is in the field.

My repro of M83 I think is an improvement on my original. My aim was to get the magneta out and try and bring out the HA areas, limited success with the later.

Hi Justin. Lovely object. I guess that was taken with your F4 8"and the EOS110D. I'm trying to get a sense of the image scale you were working with. I'll certainly give this one a try myself.

Yes 8" f/4 unmodded canon 1100D 95 x 63 arc minute field, 2.6 arc minutes certainly doesn't take up much of it.

Thats correct Justin, 10" F4.7, 1200FL so need to address guiding issues at this FL, which is all new to me as guiding errors were'nt real noticeable at 6-800mm. Have only used it two nights since purchase back in Jan-Feb, weather etc :rolleyes: & getting to Leyburn dark sky has been as rare as hens teeths, so, not expecting and magic outcomes yet :question:
Looks a great challenging target tho and have it listed on my next sessions target list :thumbsup:

Great work, Justin. NGC5189 sure is small at 2.6'. I believe ThySky has it listed as 2.3', either case its small and needs some focal length to do it justice. You've brought out excellent structure especially considering the conditions you note. Well done.

This unmodded Canon does a very good job (ie. all credits go to the operator, of course).

Nice work Justin, looks good... I sometimes replace the red channel with Noel Carboni's B&W -> Ha False Color Black Space Action in Photoshop, then adjust levels. Sometimes works sometimes doesn't, I think it depends on the object... I tried with your JPEG M83, and it lifted it a little, but you would really only notice if they were side by side...

Would be good to have a Ha sensitive 1100D, seems like a good camera.
