Here is an initial wide field taken with the Canon 5DH and 300mm F2.8L at F2.8. The new mount motors make a difference even at 300mm!
Details 15X 240sec, ISO800, Hutech LPR filter,processed with Images plus and Registar.In camera noise reduction on, only used flats.

WOW Bert! Everywhere I look I see even more stars in the background and they just keep going!!!
That pic has so many fascinating objects in it. I especially light the blobs of dark matter on the far right.

I think the dark image at the top right is a stingray or a flathead.

One can also see (just)the Dark Tower alluded to by PhotonCollector just to the left of center top. It is just where he said it was.

Here is a far better version.
Canon 5DH,Canon 300mm F2.8L at F2.8. 16X240sec at an ISO of 200,in camera noise reduction ON, processed with ImagesPlus and Registar. Because of the low noise Richarson Lucy enhancement was also used 7X7 for ten cycles (Gaussian). High ISO data does not work to well with RL enhancement, the noise also gets enhanced. The FOV is 6.85X4.57 degrees.
Zoom right in the detail is amazing. This also shows that good tracking is essential even at 300mm focal length.

Great shot Bert, now youve got me keen to emulate it :)
I note the first image shot at higher ISO reaches deeper, theres more stars, for example in the Dark Tower then in the ISO 200 shot. When I try for this I might split the difference and try shooting at ISO 400 :)

Here is a picture of the current rig. The low light level camera has a radio transmitter (from Jaycar) and transmits to a 5.5 inch B&W security monitor inside as well as the 2 inch screen on the telescope.The monitor is showing the same area as the IC 4628 pics. It shows how easy finding objects is with no dark adaption. It is also a good way of being warned when cloud ruins autoguiding. I can now keep an eye on the sky while moving images as they come in from the laptop via the wireless network to the computer inside. All in a warm well lit room.

Theres a weath of detail in your pic for sure. Heres the same area plotted with Star Atlas Pro, orientation 90 degrees compared to your image. The red rectangle is the coverage I get with your lens on my 350D's smaller image sensor. Camera sensor sizes and telescope/lens focal lengths can be inputted. The yellow rectangle DSS2 is the tip of the dark Tower, where I downloaded a DSS image of it in Star Atlas pro. Some dark Barnard nebulae are also shown.
Its powerful software for finding all sorts of faint obscure stuff, PhotonCollector has done brilliant work creating it. I only wish I had an Argo Navis as SAP talks to the Argo navis really well, Ive seen it at Photoncollectors place, makes finding objects so simple.

Thanks for that. Looks like I should get it. I have been using Wil Tirion's Sky Atlas in paper form.
