Hi all!!

Well despite the inclement weather we are, once again, having here in Brisbane, we decided to head to the Queensland Rocketry Society's open day just the other side of Jimboomba. As we headed south the rain eased off and by the time we got to the launch site at Cedar Grove the rain had stopped, so we joined the other couple of hundred spectators there.

Although we were only there for about an hour we managed to see about 10 launches, 3 of whose images I've posted here. The highlight of our hour would have to be the rocket falling towards the carpark at high speed with the shoot only opening about 20ft above the ground!

Anyway it was an enjoyable morning and we will probably go to the next one in October, providing the weather is a bit clearer.

Cheers,
Mario

Hi Mario, excellent....good to see people playing with these. Wish I was there!

Anyone use liquid fuel?

I did ask about fuel types and was told that 2 types are used - black powder, which I assume is gun-powder, and ammonium perchlorate which I believe is a solid fuel. So in answer to your question, I don't believe so...

Cheers,
Mario

I only ask as that the liquid fuels are usually better but more volatile and hazardous to cart around, an oxidiser (liquid oxygen) and a fuel (kerosene).

Kero's ok to handle...not so liquid oxygen...also combining them incorrectly..."bang". Solid is much easier and ready to go at moments notice.

Did you see any gryo stabilised fin control? Looks like the big ones have some sort of control to make them head .....:lol:Up!
