I was lucky to get a break in the clouds this afternoon to image the sun. I captured two sets of 1200 frames each to compose this 2-frame mosaic before being clouded out for the rest of the day.

Thanks John. Been raining here so lots of time to practice the processing skills.

Thank you for your comments John/Matt. It took a lot of processing to bring out the prominences in this mosaic as they were just visible in the original stack. Once the weather clears I'll try to image the sun and combine both the surface and the prominence detail together.

Pretty nice image for a 40mm scope George. Really nice in fact.
Did you use the DMK51 or the 21.

Mmm, I can't get the disc and proms in one go with my DMK51. I need to do two shots.

Ta George,
I can get the proms by doing what you did, using a high gamma.
What I haven't figured is the after processing. Its bloody well done mate.
Want to share.:confused2: You may have changed the way I approach things.

Ralph, The image was taken out of necessity as clouds were approaching. I still think that the best way is to image the surface detail and prominences separately and then combine them together. There was too much mucking around with many restarts to get this image. Also, I ended up with a thin ring around the solar surface/prominence interface that I tried in vein to feather out as best as I could, it was either too much feathering or not enough. In the end I gave up and left it as you see the image now.
