I can't believe the clear nights I've had here!! It's a long time since I've been able to image without being dogged by cloud!

The seeing was crappy but it didn't matter - I only needed to the colour. Hope you like it!

Superb Marcus!

Great contrast and colour.
I like the way you processed the inner regions of the nebula. So much detail I have not seen before.

Cheers,

Justin.

Wow Marcus, raise the bar on us. Very nice detail and colour. I have a lot of work to do and a lot more learning.

Great Job

Great result Marcus, lovely colours and plenty of detail, an excellent Trifid

Mike
Ps seeing here is crappy at the moment too

Thanks Justin. I always try to find ways of being different. Hard to do with a classic like the Trifid though. I wanted folks to see the nuance in the neb that only a few others have shown.

Cheers Larry.

Glad you liked it Peter!

Thanks Rick! Yes, I always try, with varying degrees of success, to bring out subtlety. Helps to have a night of good seeing though! :)

You're too kind Martin. Thanks!

Thanks Mario! Layer masking is your friend! :)

Thanks Peter.

Cheers Mark.

Thanks Mike! Last night was a mixed bag for me too but it got good after about 23:00 (imaging the wolf)

Nice Marcus. I really like the saturation and the colour in general. Great detail too. Star colours are really nice too. I would add another 15 hours or so, just to kill off the tiny amount of noise there though. Sorry I have turned into a mega data freak now.

Excellent field of view and overall a really lovely image.

Another beauty Marcus. You've even got the slightly greener reflection nebulosity correct. Many images have it too blue.

Cheers

Hehe ... thanks Paul. If only I had enough clear sky, time and patience to gather megadata. One day perhaps. And of course, I deliberately left a tiny amount of noise in there to make it look "real" ;)

Thanks Marc. I'm only on a roll on clear moonless weekend nights though! :(

Thanks Elio!

Thanks Steve! Yes, I agree about the blue and I took care to control myself with saturation. Going fluro on a subject like this would be sacreligious IMO! :)

Thanks Greg

Thankyou Ross! Not sure about "perfect" though mate - that leaves me no place to go. I'd settle for nearly perfect though! ;)

One of the best refractor M20 shots I've seen in 30 years of imaging.

That has turned out absolutely wonderful Marcus, great detail and colour everywhere. No doubt one of the best M20 images I have seen.

A good M20 Marcus (I love your colors), though I feel there is more detail to be had in the highlights - your data certainly seems fantastic and way deeper than your typical M20.
For reference have a look at this image by Jay GaBany (http://www.cosmotography.com/images/lrg_ngc6514.html) - one of my favourite renditions of M20 to date. Your 8-bit JPEG source yields the attached without much effort for comparison (removed by request). That said, I know we have polar-opposite tastes when it comes to bringing out detail. Regardless, well done.

I would be thrilled to get an image as good as Marcus has obtained.
Can anyone beat Gabany with that RCOS 20" ?

Just imagine what sort of data Marcus will be acquiring once his Officina Stellare RC360 arrives! He should be able to give Jay a run for his money... :)

Thanks a lot Ray!

Thanks very much John - high praise indeed!

Cheers Rolf. It's very gratifying to get such high praise from your peers!

Thanks Leo!

Thanks David, much appreciated. Hope you were able to take advantage of the clear nights recently!

Thank you Erik!

Thanks a lot Ivo - I appreciate your looking and commenting. I don't think we're polar opposites though  but our tastes are clearly different. I take pains to bring out subtle detail ... but I choose to do it subtly.

I happen to have a man crush on Jay Gabeny :D isofar as his incredible imaging and processing talents are concerned. His images are sublime and I don't consider myself in his league. Importantly though, my tastes and style are different to his (and yours) with respect to contrast and that's one of the things that makes us individual astrophotographers. Viva la difference!!

Thanks Alpal!!

Cheers Ivo - appreciate the confidence but I doubt that. In any case, my style will almost certainly stay the same! :D
