Hi,
Not much opportunity to image at the moment, managed to grab a couple of hours last night on the Eagle.
I'm pleasantly surprised how it's come up for the time.
Equipment.
8" Newtonian astrograph f/4. on HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/Orion) mini guider.
Unmodded canon 1100D, baader coma corrector, cooler box.
13 x 9 minute subs, iso 800 & 1600, stacked in DSS (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/DSS), processed in PS7.
Cheers,
Justin.

Nice one Justin! Agree with Paul - nice composition and I like the colour you've got going on there.
I'm seeing some green on the periphery of the neb though that you might want to take care of. Not 100% sure - I'm on my crappy work monitor.
Cheers, Marcus

Nice Eagle, Justin! As others have commented the colours are very nice and especially good for an unmodded DSLR.
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Laurie!
Thanks Paul!
This is one of my better ones of late. I seem to have brain fade on processing and colour sometimes.
Thanks Marcus!
Yep there's a green tinge, I'm finding if I take too much green out the rest of the colours look a bit flat.
Any idea's?
Thanks Rick!
Photo shop, even my old version 7 is great for squeezing out what colour there is to work with.
Thanks Russell!
Cheers,
Justin.

A few ways but the one to try first is to Select Colour Range on the green stuff then colour balance using that selection as a mask. Remember to feather the mask a bit. Remove green from the midtones and shadows and maybe a bit of red from the shadows to taste. Everything else had a slight green cast too so maybe apply the same mask inverted to another colour balance layer and apply similar but more subtle adjustments. By way of very rough demo see below. :)

This is was done in PS7.
First to levels - green and reduced .90, then I used selective colours
neutrals, -10% cyan , selective colours , red -10% cyan.
Seems to have worked without the use of masks, which I always have trouble with.
Cheers,
Justin.

Nice detail of the background stars and the spatial details within the nebula itself. Image this one too earlier in the year. Now on my favorites list for lesser known/talked about objects especially at star parties.

Nice image Justin. Well framed and good colour. The whole thing has a slightly diffuse look.

Seems to take me a while to get the colour right, it's great when I get advice from the more experienced.
Thanks Graeme!

Great shot Justin, love the scle you are getting... currently thinking of getting an 8"f4 for the obs now... but will wait until I have everything working properly. Glad to see you got some clear skies... bet it was damp and cold too...

I do like my 8" f/4, but it's a frustrating beasty to keep in collimation!!
Yep cold and damp, usual winter for Penwortham..

Really! I thought you had it set up permanently? If it is, it moves that much?
tilbrook@rbe.ne
07-07-2013, 10:15 PM
Yep it's permanently mounted, sometimes the collimation is ok, other times it needs a tweak. I think it has to do with the less than perfect push pull collimation on the rear mirror cell and the very soft metal spider veins. Both seem to move with slightest bump.
Cheers,
Justin.
