I want to move my iTunes library to another hard drive but for some stupid reason iTunes keeps recreating the default folder and files in C:\Users\Music\iTunes when I open it.

I have moved my whole library to G drive. Can anyone here help me?????

Running Windows 7 64 bit Prof.

Thanks!

I can't tell you how to move the iTunes root directory in Windows (probably something involving the registry), but if you just want to move all your media (music, movies, etc) to another drive you can do that from within iTunes.

In iTunes Preferences > Advanced you can select the media folder location. Pick some folder on the other hard drive and click Ok. Then, under File > Library > Organize Library consolidate or reorganise the media files. This will copy or move the files to the new location.

Cheers

Actually I thought I did but same issue.

I found online that you have to press Shift when opening iTunes then it gives you a selection to choose a library now its all good!

It's a pretty stupid way to do it, press shift when iTunes opens .

It's because Windows doesn't have an Option-key, and the Alt-key is already taken ;)

This only selects/changes the iTunes Library location, though. The iTunes library is not where your music is, it contains the metadata about your media. The media itself resides in the media folder, which can be on another drive (or external storage).

Yep I prefer it that way. Music elsewhere and all the metadata together.

Thanks :D.
