More Jupiterage from 16/6/06

Captured these last night (16/6/06) showing Jupiter including GRS and Io.

ToUcam, C8, negative projection through 2.5x Powermate. Captured and processed in K3CCDTools. 1/25 sec, gamma 40%, saturation 100%, gain 15%, approx 900 frames, 100 stacked, 2x enlarged, unsharp masked.

Images rotated, flipped, cropped and saved for the web in PS CS2 (Did I get the oritentation right Paul? I am trying!:D ).

Some minor differences in processing. Contrast a bit lacking due to frost on the corrector plate (even with the dew heater flat out and dew shield!:sadeyes: ). First night I forgot to take my freezer suit, and of course the first night I've needed it! Home by 23:00... too much pain in the fingers!:screwy:

Al, these are Gold! What fantastic fine detail in the equatorial bands - great little scope the c8. The only thing I'd try in post processing is dropping the gamma a little to bring out the feature contrast and colour. Brilliant!:thumbsup:

Thanks Robert! It is hard to please everyone. I dropped the gamma a lot on my last lot of Jupiter images and got some nice colour and contrast (IMHO) but I went too far and lost the limb... problem was on my lappy I could still see the limb, but not on my PC which has a calibrated CRT monitor. I did try to drop gamma more on this too, but I couldn't achieve the results I wanted.

I think there were 2 differences between this lot and my last lot to explain this:
1. I captured at 40% gamma instead of 0 gamma in K3CCDTools;
2. When I finished capturing I found the inner 1/2 radius of the corrector plate was frosted despite the heater etc, so that would've killed contrast too. (You get that at -8 deg C!)

Thanks for the feedback and encouraging words. I like to think I am still making progress!

I know what you mean Al.

I've been out imaging the last couple of weeks and had the Kendrick set almost full bore and the dew and frost is still taking hold!

I thought these things were manufactured in colder climates than ours!!!!!!!! (canada)

Quite disappointing really
