RCW 75 in Centarus

Howdy
This afternoon I was going over the UKST H alpha survey and found a bright Ha region with a dark lane running through it, I decided to image it. Its quite faint, a hours total time here
6x10 mins ISO 200, UHC-S, uv/ir filters, MPCC. 10 inch F5.6 scope, modded 350D camera. Processed in IRIS and Photoshop.

Yep I love winter, I started imaging as soon as it was dark, was done and packed up in plenty of time for the footy (typing this in an ad break lol)
Love imaging deep south objects that are little known.

For comparison, heres the same area with the UKST Ha survey, as deep as it gets.

got a queston for you. you use both the UHC-S & uv/ir filters. Do you screw both of them in at once? or change filters inbetween exposures?

I have both filters installed, the uv/ir screwed into the front of the coma corrector, then the uhc-s screwed into that. The modded camera is sensitive to infra red light and the uhcs doesnt stop all the ir light.

thanks scott. So the thread from both filters will screw into one another. just trying to get some ideas how to go by taking images with different filters. might get myself uv/ir and the o-iii soon. :)

yep, each filter has a thread in front so other 2 inch filters can be scrwed on top, it doesnt really matter what filter goes where, though as the UHC-S is fairly reflective, I put it in front so the rejected light gets reflected away. Also, dedicated astro cameras with inbuilt IR filters have them closest to the imaging sensor.

I have a old 1.25 inch Lumicon o3 filter, and tried it once on the helix nebula, the centre parts came out a green colour, rather then the more normal blue, if it was a 2 inch filter Id use it more.

Thanks. Its fun going for them , to see what they look like, as Ive no hope of ever spotting them visually from Newcastle lol.
