Notebook adaptor

Browsing through a Dick Smith catalogue i came across a adaptor that can be used for laptops using a car /dc outlet , i was at some stage going to get a inverter to run gear at in the feild but this seems a lot cheaper ,anyone know if there any good /reliable etc.

You can get inverters for cheaper and then you can run other things.

I would go with the inverter, cheaper and yes you can run your hairdryer for a corrector lens or dewing eyepiece or freezing............ :)

There are quite a few different wattage units available.

Try the system that I have. I have a Waeco gel battery 24 amp hour. Will run a fridge for 24 hours without recharge. I have dynamic plugs that go to lighter fittings. All my gear runs from lighter fittings and so it all plugs into the battery. The battery is charged up while I drive along to the site. Every now and then I take it for a long drive to fully charge it. It runs my laptop and scope easily for a couple of days. Cost was 430 dollars including all the fittings. The battery never gains any memory and will last for years if you look after it.

Just worried with the Ac power, can you get inverters with a safety cut feature. Any suggestions on what type/size/brand , i think my laptop requires 45watts and i have a 35amp/hr battery

Beren, They have to pass Aust. Safety Standards. Try Jaycar as Geoff has suggested. With power supplies of any kind, it's always better to have more available than you require. That way when you want to use it for a diff. app. you have the power avail. A 100 w. will drive your comp.+ TV O.K. but I suggest the next one up. This way the unit is not overloaded(working hard), it will just be idling away and hardly notice your laptop. Unless you have a specific use for the 650 w model?(Too big)! BE WARNED tho, they love lots of Amps. from your battery.
Why not use a comp.power supply? Jaycar part #MP-3462 @ $89.50? Adjustable volt out @ up to 3 Amps. L.

I have exactly that one Stuart and my laptop hums along quite nicely on a 15A Jumpstarter pack. I've not run it all night but it was fine and still had plenty of charge after 6 hours. Mind you it not a good idea to run both your laptop and telescope off the same powerpack

Hmmm not sure which way to go , the inverter would be handy for camping trips as well plus the hairdryer ability would be handy as well , thanks for the help , is it safe to use a double adaptor/powerboard depending on the draw of the components connected.........visited a few 4WD forums ands its split between the two with recomendations.
