Had a great weekend at Heathcote last weekend (7th-9th June) with several other ASV photographers. Spent some time playing with our new-ish astrophotography observatory and my still very new Canon 6D.

Hope your monitors are adjusted nicely to see the clean shadow detail in the foreground reflections ;).

Great shots, there is alot of foreground detail in the shadows.
Was there some ambient light that helped light the foreground? or just the great dynamic range in the Canon 6D?

Not really any significant ambient light.. zodiacal light was visible to the eye and airglow is visible in the images so sky brightness was dark by any standard. the little dam in front of me and the ground around it looked pretty black to my eyes!
Just great dynamic range.. helped a lot by the Neat Video noise reduction on the single frame images (not the panorama). See my webpage for description..

Are you pulling my leg?
Thanks Mike. You'll have to put a dam on your block.. maybe just in front of the observatory? Or better still.. a moat!
Thanks Mike!

Very nice, Phil! Those dam reflections are spectacular. Was it a perfectly calm / no wind night?

Thanks Rob, ourkind!
Yes.. small farm dam down with surface lower than surrounding ground and perfectly still night. I could see stars reflected perfectly and have pushed the shadow detail fairly hard to actually see milky way reflected in the water.

Great shots. Amazing how good water looks in these types of shots. Was there a thin moon helping illuminate the foreground?
Greg.

Saturday 8th June a few hours before New Moon. I think the dominant source of illumination may have been from the Milky Way!
