All trial & error for the whole night, a lot of fun capturing 'cause thats was the easy bit compared to learning how to convert files then stacking and processing, But I didnt mind when an experiment turn up with a result of soughts :) Can see need for improvement though ?
I tried a lot of ways, started with the Old Meade LPI with diff Barlows Etc, Then with 600D and mixing Barlows, Vid modes Etc

Method & Equipment for this image ?

10" SW BD F4.7 with 2" Meade series 5000 2x TeleEx,,, & 1.25" Meade series 5000 3x TeleEx,,Lol, = F28.2 = F/L 7163mm
600D in 1920x1080 vid capture, Record time 95secs, 24FPS, 2,280 frames.

Extracted Jpgs in Canon software. Stacked in Registax5 output 16bit Tiff. Processed in PS CS3

1st pic) 1 cropped single extracted Jpg frame
2nd pic) Jpg converted, 16bit Tiff RegistaX output file
3rd Pic) Final Result after processing in CS3

nice work bob,

some good banding detail too. i like it.
if you change the video setting from PAL to NTSC you can grab 30 fps on the 600d. i know a few people use the video zoom at 3x too, could be worth experimenting with that.
what steps did you undertake with the processing?

cheers,
rusty

Good stuff Bob :) I agree with Rusty, try the 30fps NTSC video setting, and if you're not already, use that 3x! :)
What were your ISO settings and your Picture Style settings?

Cheers,

Tom

Cheers John, just a quick dive from the Dark side to the bright side ;)

Thanx Graeme  pretty happy actually , ,

Appreciated & thanx for the NTSC tip Rusty, I did actually see the 3x digi mode and used it the 2nd run, forgot about & to mention that in the excitment sorry , yeah, not much image scale with out it !
Processing was pretty straight forward, basically levels and sharpening, one mild noise resuction used near the end then some contrasting & desaturation on the rings
Needed a few goes with alligning capers which took 30mins each time, basically trying settings to have all frames to stack, have that nutted out now, though I used EOI which actually resulted the weird frame size in the final, will know next time :P
Cheers

Thanx Mate, you were the one who inspired me with this, so, appreciated much your input & knowledge here on the forum  I have mentioned in reply to Rusty the 3x digi mode which i found and actually used with this image, didnt even know it was there
ISO, I only went with 1600, seemed ok to start with ? Custom Picture style; Sharp 6, Contrast 0, Sat up 1, Col tone up 2. and Auto WB , , Will try the NTSC next time also
cheers !

Thanx Frank

Bob, can you tell me whether this image was taken using tracking?

Nice Saturn, Bob!

Sure Marnus, I did track on the NEQ6p but No guiding, Saturn was drifting through the frame but only very slowely from top to bottom ! Attached is the full frame which is 1920 long x 1080 high, drifting was slow enough to allow for prob near a 4min Vid capture without correcting & Definately not enough movement to bother allignment with stacking parameters

Cheers Rick

Thanks, Do you think you would have been able to get the same result without tracking, but instead combining a few shorter videos?

Very nice image btw.

Good question Marnus, The 2,000 odd frames for this came from a 90sec clipped vid, clipped the 1st 20seconds off due to shaking
At a pinch, If you can grab 30-40 seconds of vid before she drifts too close to edge, then that should give you 600-900 frames roughly at 24fps ? worth the effort ? This will all depend on the magnifacation your using, and how long you can capture for ?

If you work with seperate shorter Video captures, say 3 or 4 vid captures @ 5-10 seconds each, then I'm guessing you may run into problems alligning them in one hit ? Might work if each run has Saturn in the same location, not real sure, as I havent tried it, though I'm leaning on the unlikely side that a way ? ?

So, if magnification has Saturn filling most of the view, then maybe sacrificing some Magnification for a longer single Video capture may be a more sleasable option

Hope this makes some sence and is of use for you.

All the best , ,

Thanks Bob

Yeah it makes sense. I had a go tonight but couldn't get anything even close to your result, I think I still need a bit of practice and fiddling with settings (probably need to empty my wallet as well) but thanks for the advice.
