Another newbie

Hey guys,

Been lurking for a long time and finally decided to join the party! Looking forwards to picking your collective brains over the coming years.

I'm very new to astronomy, picked up a 12" dob (my first scope) a couple of months ago but having fun poking around and learning as I go.

hope you have a big vehicle for transporting it to dark sky sites ;)
40+ years ago I got my first scope a 30mm refractor and with the inevidable aperture fever, their size grew over the years

12" Dob as a first scope... brave! Welcome to IIS all the same. :)

These days a 12" is not necessarily out of the ball park as a beginners scope, provided you have the ability to transport or carry it. They can be had for relatively little money and are no more complicated to set up than an 8", just larger.

Congratulations on your nice big telescope- that size is certainly going to provide you with oodles of DSO viewing.
