A DECOMMISIONED Russian satellite has been suggested as the cause of Thursday's startling solar event.
About 6.30pm Port Macquarie and Camden Haven residents witnessed a large flash of colour tearing across the night sky.
Lighthouse Beach resident David Shannon was fishing on the breakwall at Laurieton when he noticed a significant object in the sky.

I was in Kalgoorlie when Skylab re-entered the atmosphere and that was an awesome display.

I saw it too last Thursday - I was walking past a window in the stairwell at home, had a look outside at the sky as I usually do, and saw it streak down towards the south. It looked to be at least as bright as the crescent moon. Very impressive display!

I saw another one (albeit not quite as bright) last night in the east too. I wonder if it was related?

I saw that one Dave - it was an odd "smearing" kind of entry - almost as if a debris field entering the atmosphere - kind of fanned out
