Distant Towns

I was back in the Riverina over the long weekend and took a drive along some country roads between Wagga Wagga and Junee.

There's been plenty of low lying fog these past few weeks, so took to the highland to capture some of the Milky Way.

I got a little bit spooked after taking this shot, I could see a flash lights up the hill 1/2 a Km behind me, I didn't want to stick around so I quickly packed up and moved along.

My guess was the farmer was coming to see who was loitering in or near his land. I don't jump fences I always stay by the road-side, but it really annoys me to see all this beautiful country side fenced off!

I might have to do a letter drop next time I'm down with my details asking for permission to take a walk in their farm at night, anyone have any suggestions?

Yeh I've jumped a few fences and it's always a bit of a worry. Would be nice not to have to.

Sometimes those great trees are out in the middle of a paddock :)

I totally understand the getting spooked, I do it to myself every time I go out as I seem to always be in the middle of no-where.

I totally nearly had a heart attack my second trip to Mount Banks, there I was, hiked 15 minutes into the middle of nowhere, with all my gear setup, just on the tail end of dusk, I look up in the gloom and there is someone standing right in front of me!

We scared each other hehe.

he was the loveliest guy, who had been out taking photos on the other side of Mount Banks and we shared photos and tales for about 30 minutes.

It still doesnt help when you are in the pitch black.

Sounds like everyone in this area of photography has been spooked at one time or another.

Last time I was down Wilson's prom way I'd done some google scouting like I do on most trips, there was one property I was keen on getting access to, the land also happened to be near a building (turned out to be farm house) so when I went past during the day I decided to stop in, explain what I do and asked if I could go on his land (I was also worried about potential for a bull being in the paddock) he was fine with it, I offered to email him some pics and when I got home I did (I never got a reply).

From that experience I will try and ask for permission in future apart from looking at you a bit funny most people won't mind and anyone that would mind I don't think I'd like to be found on their land late at night uninvited :)

:lol: Thanks for sharing guys! so it's one or the other. I'm inclined to agree with you Matt, I definately don't want to come across an :mad2: farmer.

The other thing I'm afraid of is what if someone like Chris "hotspur" has laid traps to catch vermin or dingos and I step in one :eyepop: oh boy a world of pain! As for the Bull, well I come from "The Land Of The Running Of The Bulls" Pamplona in the Basque Country so I guess I'm qualified for that event :lol:

Great pics Carlos.We have bees on over 50 private properties and I think you,ll find most owners will be consenting once you explain what your doing and what time you,ll be there.I am sure a good location can always be used more regularly if you follow the beer economy to some degree. Be irregular and discreet and always leave everything as you found it.
