Hi,

I watched on Teev last night the Brit film Sunshine. I enjoyed it, noting meanwhile that it owes a lot to several other movies. There is a whole genre like that which I love seeing on rerun.

It even had Freddy Krueger in it, as a nutty evangelist spaceship captain.

The SFX was top notch I thought, and the soundtrack impressive, reminding me of "2001" and Michael Mann's "The Keep".

The Wiki article says Prof Brian Cox (no bad jokes this time) was the scientific adviser to the film, and I reckon he made a good move in not insisting on closer scientific accuracy. There are several glaring (yep, pun) inaccuracies as always in these films, but fidelity was not the point of it.

I reckon the producers made a blunder in that they should have had Brian Cox IN the film, in a cameo role. Then they would still be pulling in revenue from reruns headlining him.

Cheers

If you are ever in federation square in Melbourne they have one of the original space suits from the movie on display in the entrance way to the movie museum.

I saw it on DVD a while back and, while I enjoyed it, I regretted that they had to have a "homicidal lunatic" in the story - I thought the story would/could be dramatic enough without him.

I really hate that SCI FI has gone down this blending of horror and SCI FI I enjoy SCI FI but really don't enjoy watching horror so it ruins them for me.

Yeah, excellent movie, some amazingly 'real' cgi effects.

+1 to that. How can you take a 12yo kid to see and enjoy a good SCI-FI movie when they want to scare the pants off you......... that and frequent course language, why to the have F#$% this and F$$* that all the time, I don't use it in my conversations and I don't want my kids growing up using it as well.

I though Moon was great. Have you seen Love (2011) about a guy alone on the ISS, who loses contact with earth. The movie is quite strange, but good. It starts out with the Civil War...what the? But it all becomes clear......or does it? I "loved" it (pun intended) but still haven't figured out what the hell was it was about. It was very thought provoking. A rare gem that I thought was actually about something else, and didn't realise it was sci-fi.

Cheers Peter

Apparently Prof Cox did score a cameo appearance - in a Dr Who episode.

Cheers

Cillian Murphy is the Brad Pitt of our times.
