Has arrived today! :) I missed my Optex scope which Steve has saw in half so decided to get another one. Its GSO 8" F/4. I'm happy with it as this one comes with a 4 vain spider and a 2 inch focuser. Only downside is that the primary mirror needs to be centre spotted.

Some pics of it below :D

Interesting Eric. I see you didn't get a Dob setup, just the ota. Can I ask where from and how much compared to the 8" GSO Dob . Also did you think about getting a 10"

Nice one Eric! 2" focuser will be great for wide TFOV. If you want the bulk of the tube removed, you know where to find me. :D

Hi Paul, wasn't actually thinking about a dob on an EQ6 mount actually. I wanted a fast scope once again F/4 so i can compare my DSI 2 to it. check pm :)

Thanks norm and ving. wasn't planning on modding it but you just gave me an idea vingster ;)

OK what is it, how much was it?, and the rings? , rain for a month now, I am very happy for you, but, will you have enough counter weights with all the stuff to hang off it?

Thanks houghy. Its a GSO 8" F/4 scope :P the price is a secret and came with the rings :) Its pouring down here in melb so I won't be able to use it maybe till sunday :( Going to test both this new scope as well as the DSI II.. hanging .. hanging badly. The counter weight should be adequent for now even with the equipment on it. From the pic, still alot of room to move the weights down.

I'm really curious to see some images from your DSI 2. While you're waiting for the skies to clear, make yourself a Hartman mask. :) ... Orion Accufocuser from Bintel might be a worthwhile investment too for that focuser ...

Hi Eric

You may what to consider using the diffraction spikes created by the secondary vains to focus your camera. The method works very well. Generally when the scope is out of focus you will see double lines above/below and left/right of a moderately bright star. Adjust the focus until the double lines merge to one single line above/below and left/right of the star. Done your scope is in focus.

Hi Anthony, just missed you on Monday. I was using the diffraction spikes method beforehand with my previous scope with 3 spider vains. Thanks for the tip :)

thansk asi. pretty much the same scope as my previous one. Reason why i wanted the same scope was so i can compare DSI 1 images with DSI 2 using the same scope. Besides this new one has 4 sipder vains and a 2" focuser.

Cheers.
