In one of our previous threads John B gave the Denkmeier 21 mm EP a glowing report. We respect his opinion greatly.
We wondered if any other member of IIS has had any experience in using one and their opinion of it.
Any comments would be appreciated :)

John may well be the only Aussie to have experienced this very new ep first hand.
Try asking on CN.
I am not a Aussie but I have been using the Denk 21s for a little over a year now and they are wonderful eyepieces. I use the plural because the D21s were designed with binoviewing in mind and were sold as fully tested match sets to be used in Denkmeier Binoviewers. However they are also excellant single eye viewing eye pieces too. I use them often in my Coronado PST solar scope and they provide superb contrast. I also use a single eyepiece D21 when solar viewing with my 80mm WO ZenithStar refractor w/ Baader white light filter. The desert sky mount allows me to mount these two scopes side by side. It is interesting to compare views. And if you use them in a Denk Binoviewer, the views are spectacular whether you are doing deep space observing or solar observing. If I had to sell all my eyepieces but one, one of my D21s would be the one I would keep.

Hi from Australia Warf :hi: and welcome to IIS :welcome:
We joined last month and find IIS a great way to learn from people with more experience than ourselves.
We appreciate your comments about the Denkmeier. It seems that there are very few people here who have used this EP. Thanks for the review it will be taken on board. We now have two very good recommendations.
Looking forward to reading more posts from you on IIS.

John B has been spot on with everything else he recommends (or doesn't), so I'll be getting one (or two :)) of these EPs when finances allow. Might have to sacrifice a couple of Panos and/or a Nagler for the cause! :eyepop:

Just another question Warf. We would be using the Denkmeier with our 12" Dob f5 In your opinion would it still be suitable.
Do you know of anyone using one in such a Scope ?

Sorry for such a long time between my first post and my response... I had some vacation time and was deep in the wilderness of Wyoming Rocky Mountains (me, my two dogs, my small refractor and one very curious grizzly bear that had me sleeping with one eye open most of the time).
I have not personally used the Denk 21s on a 12 inch DOB but I will be doing some observing with local club members July 29 and 30th. One of our members has a 12 inch and another has a 20 inch dob so we will check them out in each and I will give you a update on what we find out.

Ever since I bought my Denk binoviewers this past spring I've been looking at their ep's. Thanks for the great report, Warf..... that means I'll have to spend more than I wanted to on a pair of ep's - LOL.
Wyoming Rockies, huh? Sounds like a great vacation. I spent 10 years living in the Colorado Rockies, and miss them very much. (well, 10 years living in the foothills, but I climbed the Rockies often) Did you backpack in?
Two weeks ago we setup a 20 inch Dob and used both the Denk 21s and the new Denk 14s and the views were absolutely phenominal (now I have to get a 20 inch dob to go with my eyepieces)... there is also a thread running on CloudyNights that is echoing my sentiments regarding the denk 14s.

Again, these are sold as pairs for binoviewing, but we swictched between mono and binoviewing and the views were great. These are high quaility eyepieces worth considering.

Thanks for getting back to our thread Warp.
Having you test the 21 and the 14 Denkmeier was great. The one word in your report " PHENOMINAL " says all that we need to know.
Having just purchased two high power EP's recently the Pentax 10 & 7 XW's we'll have to wait a bit longer for our next premium EP. It will be a Denk for sure now, we just have to make up our mind if we want the 21 or 14.
Will let you know when we get one and what we think of it.
Thanks again for your report and also for the link to the CN report. Our other IIS member John B has high regard for the Denk's also.
By the way just jump on in there and get that 20" Dob to go with your EP's
