Hello,

Would anyone be able to recommend any books or magazines on solar astronomy or imaging?

A friend is interested in getting into solar astronomy/imaging, and whilst forums are extremely valuable, I hoped to get him something as a primer or the like.

cheers.

There's only a few up-to-date books on the Sun. Most of them are pretty scientific.
The Solar Chat site is quickly becoming the #1 site for solar observers and contains not only some of the best solar images around, but also, as mentioned, a comprehensive reference library of reference material, tutorials and other very good material.
I strongly recommend it to any/ all solar observers.

thanks for the replies, rally and merlin66.
I have passed on that info to my friend.

since it was his birthday, as well, I bought the Kindle version of:
"How to Observe the Sun Safely (The Patrick Moore Practical Astronomy Series)"
http://www.amazon.com/Observe-Patrick-Practical-Astronomy-ebook/dp/B00A9YGR8Q/ref=pd_sim_b_1

not sure what it is like but hopefully my friend will like it and get some use out of it.

cheers

Just seen this post - you should get a copy of the book "New eyes on the Sun" Publisher by Springer with an Australian author. Available thru Bookworld or Amazon.

thanks, John.

I will have a look at it, unfortunately, i have already purchased a book for him for his birthday but when I eventually get into solar observing I will keep this in mind, especially as it is an Australian author and member of IIS.
