hi there ive a Nikon 3100 slr & im after some advice on taking pics of the moon can anyone please help me with the settings on my Nikon 3100 slr cheers anthony:confused2:

A little more detail will help. Are you using the camera through a scope or are you using a camera lense? And what type of scope or lense are you proposing. In my experience if using a camera lense you will probably need a telephoto and a sturdy mount. Oh and lots of patience!
Settings wise, the moon is fairly bright so no need for long exposure. I would try setting the camera on aperture priority, stopping down the aperture a couple or so stops (that helps with sharpness) and see what happens.

Oh and use a remote trigger or your cameras timer and mirror lockup functions to improve sharpness.

You need to take your camera of auto exposure/auto focus and then keep changing the shutter speed until you get some surface detail. It's all trial and error but but with digital cameras doesn't cost anything.
