Howdy all
With the moon full I thought Id break out my Ha filter again, with Bert's 300mm lens.
5x5 mins 300mm f2.8, 7 Nm Baader H alpha and Idas uv/ir filters, processed in Iris and Photoshop.
Gee the Ha filter cuts through moonlit skies like a hot knife through butter :) it loves anything emitting hydrogen alpha light.
modded 350D used.

Ah!... the H-alpha filter - the ansewr to every hopelessly addictad imagers needs! :D
Nice work but from experience it will still be better with less or no moon...although, I use a 13nm filter, a 7nm may be better...?

Hi Scott,
that is quite a good image. I was suprised to see RCW57 (top left) in the field ! In fact their is nebula across the entire field. Also the stellar bubble is very well defined. Is it a wolf-rayet star doing that ?

wonderful image Scott.

Thanks.
Yes I imagine theres some very hot stars pouring out a scorching stellar wind, both forming and illuminating the bubbles of nebulosity. Gee what would a wolf rayet star look like close up (heavily filtered of course)?.

Where do I get a Ha filter? All jokes aside, very nice clear image. I would be interested in the difference with no Moon as well. I suspect it would not be far different. If spectral width is a rough indication of lunar light pollution with 7nm/300nm = 2% of full spectrum lunar light pollution.Where 300nm is roughly full spectrum of lunar reflected light.
The Ha filter would be better than 90% transmission for Ha.
What does the image look like if you leave at as red Scott?

My Ha filter is a Baader one, 7 Nm. Alpine Astro sell them in the States
http://www.alpineastro.com/filters/filters.htm#H-Alpha has a transmission chart too.
I think theres also some dealers in Australia that sell Baader stuff too. Custom Scientific in the States make them as well.
Heres a similarily processed image but without removing the other 2 channels and leaving it red.
