GRS & Jnr, IO and Ganymede.

20:00, so temps may be still falling, but if you can grab it, it will be a treat!!

Good luck all

Jupiter

Thanks for the heads up Dave, I struggle to see the GRS, but I haven't given up, thats why I am in the market for a bigger scope.

Scope out & cooling with 2 pedestal fans & the SCT cooler. Conditions look heaps better than last night.

davidpretorius
12-06-2006, 06:49 PM
mirror 3.9, ambient 2.2 and dropping! minimum will be around zero. I hope the mirror gets there!

asimov

According to the Jupiter 2 program were already close to the mid point of GRS transit, is that correct??

davidpretorius
12-06-2006, 07:09 PM
not quite on starry night and it is 1/2 fast i reckon. i will do a visual...... 2/3 of the way to transit for the GRS, yup starry night is aprox 1/2 hour fast

ambient 1.9 degrees, mirror 3.1. it is going to be a close thing.

seeing with tube currents is 4/10 at the moment

asimov
12-06-2006, 07:24 PM
I over estimated the seeing, pretty bad at present. Yup, tube currents.

I'm there! Well, i'm here! Out in the cold, though not as cold as Tasmania.

Ambient 6,1 mirror 7.0.

Seeing at least 6/10, platform is behaving (so far) and I've captured 3 avi's.

Hoping for a good night to continue.

GRS is closing to transiting the meridian.

So far so good..

Had 5 minutes of pain when I was about the throw the platform down the hill but I found a way for it to start working properly again.

5 avi's captured, Ganymede the pimple has just squirted out from behind Jupiter. Seeing looks pretty good so far. I can see shading on ganymede in the raw frames as they're being captured.

asimov
12-06-2006, 08:04 PM
Captured 6 AV's so far. 3 with both moons visible. I make it 3-4/10 seeing, so I don't hold much hope of getting any stunning finals.

asimov
12-06-2006, 08:05 PM
Geez! I gotta get the hell away from SA! This seeing is killing me!!!

iceman
12-06-2006, 08:17 PM
Io is gone behind, GRS+Red Jr are just past transit.

Still looking good, ambient 5.7, mirror 6.3

asimov
12-06-2006, 08:17 PM
Grrr! I'm watching the 2 moons fuzz in & out of focus like there was someone twiddling the focuser knob while I'm capturing!

I'll be lucky to capture detail on Jupiter, never mind Ganymede Mike!

asimov
12-06-2006, 08:23 PM
Oh great...the clouds are here! Now I have to shoot thru sucker holes!?...So be it! What's next, rain I suppose?

iceman
12-06-2006, 08:24 PM
I've got Ganymede sitting nice and still frame to frame.

5fps, white meter at 220, looking good. 9 avi's in the bag.

This *could* be a 8/10 night - won't know until they're under the processing microscope.

I feel for ya John.. but i'm happy as a pig in mucky stuff.. first night out in 2 weeks!

iceman
12-06-2006, 08:25 PM
hmm now i'm in a dilemma.. My wife will want me to come inside and watch Desperate Housewives with her.. my hands are freezing cold and I can barely type, and I promised her a cup of tea an hour ago!

But the seeing is good!!!!!

:bashcomp:

Just joined the party - a bit of a late entrant. Scope outside cooling off now, but the seeing looks fairly poor in Brissie. Hope I haven't missed the show, as I won't be ready to image for another 30 mins - need to set up laptop, attached JMI focuser, acquire Jupiter, focus, plug in ToUcam etc.

Good luck to all Jupiter hunters tonight!

Cheers

Dennis

Ahh, just had a look at the jet stream map - Brissie is in the green and yellow bit so that explains the poor seeing. Or should that be the Green & Gold for the socceroos - good luck to the boys.

Mike – I just made Narelle a cup of tea and there is no requirement for me to watch TV so I’m off outside again.

Cheers

Dennis

10 avi's, that'll do me.. I'll be busy processing them all day tomorrow anyway.

Off inside.

Good luck to those still out!

davidpretorius
12-06-2006, 08:45 PM
seeing was 8/10 i reckon. Jessica helped me get Jupiter with ears and then a couple of very nice ones with ganymede sitting nice and still like ice's!!

tomorrow should be some great images i reckon.

go get that cuppa tea ice!

asimov
12-06-2006, 08:52 PM
Oh can it Dave! :mad2: I don't want to hear that! Surrounded by 8/10's!:(

Just joking, glad you guys got some good ones! :)

davidpretorius
12-06-2006, 08:59 PM
how far from the ocean are you asi? and did you have on shore breeze ice??

I have noticed northerly winds bring better seeing as it is about 40km to bass strait

Dennis
12-06-2006, 09:30 PM
Pulled the plug in Brissie - couldn't even get a decent focus on Jupiter in spite of "focusing" on the moons, busy mimicking Lissajous figures, whilst cavorting around the screen doing their jet stream boogie.

Ah well, sweet dreams for me tonight, whilst you lucky ones get to process your avi's!

Cheers

What a night,

Well Asi if last night was a 1/10 I rate tonight a -5. Took 20 A.V.I.s and have deleted them all. Onion rings with 75% gain, never heard of it before. Onion rings that resist gain.

Saw red Junior and a glimpse of small spot just off of it. Be interested to see if David or someone else with better conditions can resolve anything in that area.

asimov
12-06-2006, 10:01 PM
Yeah, were certainly seeing the worst of it Lester. When we finally see a 6/10 we'll probably give it a 15/10! I've got detail on my images...blurry detail that is. I'll be posting them tomorrow to give the forum a laugh!

asimov
12-06-2006, 10:05 PM
Gain resistant onions huh!? We only get the best onions down south! Now thats QUALITY SA onions!!

I've kicked 'em I'm happy to say! Haven't seen them since I got the 900nc, it was worth the cost of the camera just to nip those rotters in the bud!

davidpretorius
12-06-2006, 11:11 PM
first one from tonight at 8:02

seeing was still not great as fans/peltiers had just been turned off, but i liking the ganymede detail.

what position is that white spot lester?

stringscope
12-06-2006, 11:23 PM
Nice image David. Yes it is amazing the level of detail you have captured on Ganymede  .

iceman
13-06-2006, 06:55 AM
No problems, happy to explain. It's really easy once you've done it once.

Dennis
13-06-2006, 07:09 AM
Wow - those are excellent Jupiter images David & Mike. Stunning details and image scale with extraordinary detail on Ganymede. Well done!

Cheers

Thanks D.

I've picked the best 3 out of the 10 avi's, although there was only 1 or 2 with obviously less quality. The rest were very good!

Now to do the lengthy process!

asimov
13-06-2006, 07:53 AM
It wasn't a lengthy process for me, I assure you! :D

Rest assured it wasn't from lack of trying either..damn seeing :(

Ah well! :) I'm happy; I got ganymede & Io...something to show the grand-kids.;) Even if they do say "but grand-dad!? wheres the detail on Ganymede like Davo & Mikes nice pics!?"....."errr, well it's like this kids....."

Lester

asimov
13-06-2006, 08:03 AM
I'll be buried in Barbados in the year 2043 by the time we get a 10 around this joint!
