... a potassium rich meteorite last night.

Was looking west during an imaging run, when I saw a relatively bright meteorite, with a distinctly purple trail. Never have seen a K-meteorite before, having predominately seen silicate and iron ones.

I saw one once at the house glowing green then orange then a puff of smoke. It made a hissing noise, that's what got my head up. What would that be?

Only a guess but sodium has a strong orange emission and copper is green to blue-green.

The hissing noise is actually a re-emission of EM radiation from when the bolde exploded. Nearby metal acts as an antenna and re emits sound that is audible to the select few. Had a similar experience at a SPSP several years ago and my hearing is not brilliant. Typically the bolides explode about 10 miles up, so sound should take 50 seconds to reach earth. The light flash takes less than a tenth of a millisecond. Cherish your ability to hear the re-emision from metal- you are one of the chosen ones.

Aaaahh!! That explains something !!
I spotted my one and only Aquarid last Tuesday week and thought I 'heard' it but my brain said no way, speed of sound and all that sort of stuff. Was walking up the driveway at 6 am and passing a neighbours tin roof garage at the time.
Thanks.

Wow !:D
