new gear

Today I purchased an Atik 314L colour CCD and a Lunt LS60/PT/B1200 solar scope to complete my equipment needs. I am retiring completely now-been forced on me by a pathological fracture of my right ankle. Unfortunately it will be several months before I can try this stuff out-anyway its something to look forward to!
I have been very impressed by Chris' (screwdriver1) work with his Atik 314 and really looking forward to having a go myself.:)

Thanks Pete-I have had this broken ankle for 3 weeks and cannot even see an orthopaedic surgeon until Monday week. My rheumatologist tells me the ankle needs to be fused, so I will be out of action for another 3 months after surgery.
Anyway I will be looking forward to using the new gear:)

I think this is ample time to get acquainted with the new setup - you don't need to stand long to setup before sitting for the next 6 hours ;) I find I have a sore bum more often than feet in astronomy :)

Once you CCD, you'll NEVER go back. Wonderful stuff.

(Mine is still not right after 3yrs, apparently you're supposed to rest and let them heal .... go figure)

Sorry to hear about your gammy ankle Laurie. I have one that is similar - so I can empathize. Retirement is the hard part - read some stats this morning on it - retirement is bad for your wealth and health, it seems. I agree.

But I intend to keep my mind active by getting right back into astronomy as soon as possible

Hi Laurie,
10 weeks ago today I broke both bones in my lower leg, displaced my ankle and di all the ligaments in my lower right leg. Operation to plate together my bones and not fun times for about 6 weeks. I know where you are coming from. Good luck with it. They seem to know what they are doing so you will be right. Yes a long road ahead as I am basically having physio for the remainderr of the year.
Anyway tonight I have my gear imaging the Lagoon nebula for the first time in 10 weeks and sadly I am too tyred to crack on. Your camera sounds great.

Thank you, Mark. I'm sorry to hear about your leg and ankle, but glad to hear you are on the mend.
Major surgery takes a long time for your stamina to return-I had both knees replaced 10 years ago, and I think it was at least 18 months before I felt right back to normal.:)
