Istanbul is a city of contrasts. Magnificent mosques and modern amenities to the derelict houses that are still lived in.

1. The foyer of the hotel we stayed the first night at.
2,3. Where the neighbours slept in the park.
4. The cafe next to the hotel.
5. The local mosque.
6. From the garden.
7. Chess anyone?
8. Palaces of the poor.

Have a go at some existing light photography in the back streets, Pete! I wish I'd taken my camera when we are walking at night.

A few more Istanbul shots - these ones were taken in one of the busy indoor markets. The photos struggle to do the colours justice! (You just can't match the dynamic range the eye can perceive!).

1. Spice Trade.
2. The Light Fantastic.
3. Everything You Could Possibly Want (and some you might not ;)).
4. Three Wishes?
5. The Claytons Market (The market you have when you're not having a market...).
6. Decisions, Decisions.

Thanks for the postcards Al.

Great stuff and good to see you had a little spare time to wander around.

Thank goodness it's a big world. Always something new to see or experience.

My pleasure, Gary and Larry.

Life would be pretty boring if it was the same everywhere, wouldn't it?

When I was growing up, Australian had a reputation for being laid back. I have to say we could learn a thing or two from the Turks on that matter. The park along the waterfront in Istanbul was always (that I saw) full or families and groups cooking barbecues and kicking soccer balls, and they know how to move in crowds with a minimum of stress. I liked it. Great place to explore. I'd like to go back one day with more time.:)
