Hi all - my first time back for quite a while. Thought I'd post a quickie from the other morning. Might be a bit crunchy at <200kb, so apologies.

Sony RX1 - 1/2sec @f/22 ISO100 (hand held)

Thanks David. It was a beautiful misty morning at River Island 4WD Park on Sunday morning. Idyllic, really!

Cheers Ric. It's a great spot and it's not far from home.

Welcome back. Nice shot, very moody.
1/2 sec, handheld? I'm missing something somewhere?
Could not have done that with the M8, for sure.

Thanks Gary

No, you certainly could not have done it with the M8. The RX1 is just so good as a travel camera. Stabilisation is really excellent in both stills and video modes.

That has come out exceptionally well.

The cool tones, mixed with the green alpine foliage and good composition make for a lovely combination.

I feel like I'm in Canada, rather than NSW.

Thank you Humayun. I wish that it were Canada, but alas, no. Leave Sydney, go through Campbelltown and hang a right at Mittagong. Exotic!

Love it. What a great photo. I love these Aussie green streams.

Greg.

Indeed, it must be, I'm still struggling getting my head around the 1/2 second handheld?
Gary.

Thanks Greg, that's very nice of you. :)

Gary - no trouble at all - it's even better on the OM-D. Sony and Olympus have both done a lot of development in this area. I've even taken a few two-second hand-held shots in low light on the OM-D and the images are perfectly formed.

Thanks Bob :) LOL.. yes, it can get cold. Thankfully, last weekend was still quite warm with the current "autumnal heatwave" I keep hearing about on the radio. It was around 10 degrees that morning - so crisp, but nice :)

Great shot, you've captured the lighting nicely.

Thanks so much Mike, Matt and Roger. :)

Matt - what are you getting now in Jindabine? I'm yet to get down to my place outside of Cooma this year, but when I do I'll be taking a woolly jumper, that's for sure.

We had -6C the other morning, snowed on the hills all night, enough to ski XC at Charlotte's or downhill at Perisher, they have a T-bar operating already.

Reading that makes me hungry for a ski trip :) Shame I have a broken ankle. Did enjoy a Thredbo trip last year :)

That's really not a good enough excuse Roger, I got hit by an out of control beginner skier in 2011, broke 3 ribs, punctured my lung and cracked my ankle and I was back skiing within 5 weeks! (albeit very gingerly !!!)

Wow, that's quite an impressive list of injuries! I'm glad you're still with us! and I'm glad it wasn't me that ran into you :) (not a beginner but still somewhat out of control now and then :) )

My ankle was only broken Saturday just gone (not skiing, taking astrophoto's!) so give it another week or two ... not a bad break, if there's such a thing :)

All of your RX1 images are thick with atmosphere -nature/city/colour/B&W. How you get such diverse feel with the same camera is incredible.

Just read up on the RX1 for the first time, a very impressive bit of kit that in the right hands obviously gives great results. Now be a dear and post a bigger file!!!

Thanks Geoff & Matt :) Yes, the RX1 is an instant classic camera. Between it and the OM-D I have no desire, whatsoever, to own a "full-sized" DSLR any more. There's no need, and in fact they're hindrance to me and my style of shooting. My third camera, and it's also brilliant, is a Sony RX100 which stays permanently in my glovebox.

The RX1 does look like a very nice camera. I often dream of having a camera like it or the Fuji X-Pro1. Simplicity and elegenace.
