Quick Milky Way

Here's a quick integration of 1 hour of data (tracked on the Polarie) captured on Saturday night, during my lunch break at work. :)

This is straight out of PixInsight so is missing contrast enhancement that I would normally perform in Photoshop. I also need to work on the DBE to flatten the gradient.

Lots of coma at the edges, but, that's what you get shooting at f/4 wide open.

Quite happy with the performance of the 5D Mark III at ISO-1600!

Mate. drop everything and go and buy the Nikon 14-24 + adaptor. You'll never see coma again... wide open @ f/2.8! :P

Colin, I've seen the patent application for the Canon EF 14-24mm f/2.8L USM lens. I can't see myself going the Nikon route, regardless of how wonderful that lens is, simply because I can't use DPP with it. None of the corrections would make sense. :( I will hold out for a bit. :)

What a ripper H! With some minor background tweaks, this image will really shine. The composition really caught my attention at first. Seeing the diagonal band of dust and dense star clouds is very striking. The burn tool on shadows would likely bring out some of the more commonly known dark nebulae in order to bring familiarity to the image, but of course this is a matter of preference. Well done. Keep them coming.

I went out again last night, Jase, to try and get the same field, but, I was having so many problems with dew. I gave up and went home. Need to invest in a dew amelioration system for lenses. :(

In fact I may mine up for sale soon , your 17 - 40 will still make a good walk about lens though.
Nice shot H always difficult with ulta wides most need stoping down but if you do it takes all night to get the stars bright enough , unless you get a Nikkor 14-24 :)
