After using the 80ED a few times I have decided that the purpose that I intended for this scope is better served by an alt-azimuth type mount.
Im considering building something like a mini dobsonian type mount on top of a tripod. My question relates to the mount bar that comes with the scope. What type of fitting is meant to attach to it?

Geoff,
I can only guess at a dovetail for one of the SP/GP/SVP mounts. If it removes easily (and it should) then maybe a simple set of rings, or a cradle that allows some form of longitudinal adjustment for balance. Simple altitude bearings either side, and a tallish tripod to hold it all.

Geoff,
Don't know about the mount bar that comes with that scope but I found a link to a nice looking homemade Alt/Az mount. Craig's Simple Alt/Az mount (http://home.earthlink.net/~celstark/id4.html)

Thanks Mick, thats very much like the mental image I had in mind.
I could use the tube rings I have to mount it, but it makes for a wide saddle to allow room for them.
