Hello guys
Just few weeks ago i bought my self Canon 60D and i would like to buy few more batteries. Do third party batteries last as long as original?
Thank you
Alex
Nowhere near as long, in my experience. I have a 60Da and got a spare generic battery for about $10. Waste of money - it runs down in less than an hour compared to the 3-4 hours I get with the Canon original.

I have read some reports that as the Canon OEM batteries get more “intelligent”, they can be individually identified by the camera software/firmware and their status can be reported on in terms of how many charge/discharge cycles, etc.
When Canon updated the 5D Mk III Firmware recently, I read reports that some 3rd party batteries would not “work” and that their charge status (the bar icon on the LCD) would not function so it was always reported as fully charged even as it was discharging with use.
Although Canon probably did not set out to do this deliberately, it does seem an additional risk to factor with some, although not all, 3rd party batteries.
Cheers
Dennis

Life on an OEM battery seems much better. My KM 7D has two batteries, both still showing good charge and working well.
They are both 7 years old .... !
Shame I've upgraded my camera ..
