M16 with DSI RC10C

After lots of fiddling, I have finally produced some results from my investment last year.

Here is a rough and ready M16. Only 3 subs, and one of those had poor collimation - but I had to use it so I could process an image stack! There is also a pixel artifact that needs to be removed.

Really just happy to be posting something after many months off.

Focal length 1872mm, F7. QSI583, Astrodon 5nm Ha, 15min subs. Really need to go much longer with the subs...

Its Deep Sky Instruments or something similar. They are scope makers.

Off to an excellent start. Looks great. Startools may be handy to round out the stars. Also 2x2 binning will round them out.

I think the star shape will be due to the mis-collimated sub I included in the stack. Will try processing a single sub and see what happens.

A solid image David. Well done! I'm surprised the stars are like this with only 1 sub out of 3 exhibiting the star elongation. Data rejection algorithms would have seen these pixels as outliers and reject them, thus leaving you with more circular stars. Anyway, something to consider.

What I like about this image is its natural appeal. Nothing looks over sharpened with hints of faint structural detail amongst the more prominent features. It would make a lovely candidate to add some colour to.

Just saw the prices on these things. Very tempting.

Do you think the stock focuser would be capable of carrying an STL-11000M? Or, would I need to invest in a Feathertouch?

Thanks Jase - a very rough process so far. I'll fiddle with the data some more when time allows.

H - the secondary mirror moves for focusing - all electronic and ASCOM controllable - works well with focusmax. Leaves a very rigid connection a the rear end to the camera!
