The Losmandy G11 has quite a reputation as one of the mainstay quality EQ mounts of our time (before you start spending mega money on Tak mounts etc) but I am curious to hear peoples thoughts on the little (and arguably more portable) brother the GM8?
Does anyone have some particular experience or insights on the quality and use of the GM8? Also - how does it compare with some of the contemporary rivals?

An outstanding mount to my mind, I had the earlier "non-goto" model. Strong etc, and if on the G11 tripod, it was even better.
I always felt that the length between the RA axis and the dovetail saddle was overly long, but that is just me.
Great mount.

Would you say better than the G11 or the GM8 is just a smaller lighter version of the same thing?

I'd say on a par, but obviously smaller. I'm thinking HEQ5 as opposed HEQ6 if you get my drift.
I used mine on the GM8 tripod, but know of people who used the GM8 on the G11 tripod, and it really helped.
If you don't have the requirement for G11 loads, try the GM8, I don't think you will be disappointed.
