I made a focusser for the scope i got so kindly from avandonk (Bert).
It is made from a small motor that was driving a mirror for a laser and connected to a MCLennon gearbox (25/1).
The gearbox in the motor is about 10/1 so the focusing is very precise.
The two round bits holding the motor assembly are button batteries that were exactly the right height.
The coupling is made from the Losmandy worm coupling.
Some photo's down here.

Well, I think that's very cool. Nice when it all comes together. I would like to make a precision focusser for Canon lenses - this has given me an idea:question:

Nice one Martin,
What are you using to drive the focuser?
Hand paddel or is it ascom cotrolled from your laptop?

I've just got my new GSO RC8 and will now be running a Canon SLR with Backyard EOS for capture and so I'm looking to automate focusing with live view from the camera now available directly to the laptop.
I just need to sort out an ASCOM compatible stepper driver as I have all the hardware otherwise.

I use the http://www.bintel.com.au/Astrophotography/Focusing-Aids/Shoestring-Focus-Motor-Controller/760/productview.aspx
And it works really well with all DC motors of about 5 Volts.
It is ascom controlled from my computer.
