Ngc5364

Managed to get 12x10 min Lum (1x1) and 5x5min (2x2bin) RGB of these galaxies with the 10"GSO RC.
Hurray no moon this time so the colour was there. Processed in PI and PS3.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I had started out with a different framing of this that included another galaxy in the top left but it pushed all the others to the edges and so after an hour I decided to reframe the whole shebang and capture what you see.
I have trolled through the NGC-IC catalogue looking for unusual galaxies and pairings together something different to image and this was one that I hadn't seen previously.
Justin I'm sure you would like the GSO 10" RC as I've found it an easy scope to setup and like the cooling fans as it brings the scope to equilibrium quickly.

I wasn't going out last night but decided it was too good to pass up, but the galaxy took an hour and half to clear the neighbours tree and then I messed up the initial framing so I felt a lot of time was wasted. I was attracted to the faint arms of this galaxy as its so delicate unlike M83 which has quite thick arms so that's why I imaged it. I don't think more detail can be extracted from the arms with what I have but your scope would gobble this up easily.


I use the same guidescope on my SCT which has a Fl of 2900mm. It works as long as there is absolutely no flexture and then it's easy. But it took six months of trial and error to get there.

Surprisingly NGC5364 is not mentioned in Imaging the Southern Sky, 1001 Celesteal wonders to see before you die, Southern Gems, Hartung's astronomical objects for Southern Telescopes or Atlas of the Southern Night Sky; but it is included in Timothy Ferris' book entitled Galaxies. I was surprised at its lack of exposure so to speak.

thanks Ross. If I were doing it again I would do it slightly wider probably with the 5" scope as there are other galaxies around as well as an Abell cluster.
