the seeing was poor but i could say it had pockets of reasonable seeing very short lived. the ASI camera gave over 60fps at 640x480
taken wiith the 127ed and the baader solar wedge and ASI120MM camera and a vixen 2.4 barlow , the Ha shot is with the lunt 60DS in a region of interest taken with the DMK41.

i know i have pushed the limits of processing for this data as the images are fairly ordinary but i managed to get a closeup of all the sunspots facing us today

Hi David
Wow – what a smorgasbord of Solar images, a veritable feast for the eyes. I love them all but being a WL nut, the WL shots are my favourites.
I did a quick re-pro to tease out more of the data although it may have boosted the noise?
Cheers

Nice ones David, although you can tell it was crap seeing.
Been thinking about that CMOS camera but don't reckon it'll give me a much better result than from the DMK21...What's your opinion on this, if any mate?

Really only looked at the Ha, as we have been working on that. My goodness, the two you posted are stunning, what a transformation!!!

to be honest after using the ASI and the DMK21 the ASI is better - its more sensitive. I love my DMK41 i find it is better for Ha shots. yea the conditions were crap, so i made a nylon purse from the sows ear ;)

you know a funny thing happened on the way to that image - the single stack was lacking in depth and detail, i couldn't tune it properly as the seeing was crud. so i screwed the second etalon back on ready to put the cover back on and then it struck me, the detail was there. only got one shot. the secret was i couldnt get it tuned so i did a region of interest ;) to cut out the bright band;)

Hi John
The main reason I acquired an ASI120MM was that my DMK21 and DMK31 are all Firewire and my new PC is not FW, so I was looking for a USB camera upgrade.
It is unlikely that I would have purchased the ASI if my Imaging Source cameras had a USB interface. With the ASI at approx. ½ price of the equivalent DMK model, it was a no-brainer to get the ASI.
Has there been a quantum improvement in image quality? Well, in my experience so far, for the solar and lunar work that I enjoy, I would say not. The most significant contribution to IQ is seeing although the higher frame rate of the ASI can help you gather more good frames in those fleeting seconds of good seeing.
On my Samsung Ultrabook, the ASI will only work on the native USB2 port and not on the other 2 native USB3 ports although I have not looked for a fix yet.
All the above comments are my preliminary observations only and could well change as I gain more experience with using the ASI, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Cheers

you are quite correct Dennis, the ASI does not work in USB3 ports as i have trialled that on all of my PC's

Thanks Dennis. I must say I'm happy enough with my old model DMK21 so I think I'll just sit on it awhile longer. I've heard reports about the ASI's giving *potentially* nasty Solar results due to the breed of chip in them..
Speaking of USB3 - I have several USB3 devices that refuse to run at suggested USB3 speeds IN a USB3 port on my Toshiba, in fact I don't know of anyone getting USB3 speeds YET....Must be something in that..:shrug:

Imaging all night and imaging and viewing all day. What we do for education. We will have to ask the other school if we can borrow it but can not wait to get some good advice on getting and processing data.
