Hi,

Finally some clear skies!
Seeing was fair with some drifting cirrus, still the best for a while.
I've been planning this image of NGC 6188 and 6164 for some time, particularly to have 6164 in the field.
NGC 6164 is an emission nebula, looks remarkably like a planetary.
Think it's time to save some pennies and upgrade the coma corrector so I can get good stars to the edge of the field.

Equipment.

8" Newtonian astrograph f/4. on HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader coma corrector, cooler box.

27 x 8 minute subs, darks and flat frames applied.

Median stack in DSS, processed in PS7.

Cheers,

Justin.

A lovely colourful widefield. You got NGC6164 very well.

Another great image Justin. The colour you're getting out of that unmodded 1100D is very impressive.

I agree with your comments on the MPCC - the poor correction I observed in the corners of my own images with the MPCC and a 200 f4 newt (together with some other issues with my scope) also got me thinking it was time to upgrade.

Thanks Greg!

Thanks Richard!
Think I'll give the Baader MPCC MK 3 a go, it's supposed to be good down to f/3.5.

Cheers,

Justin.

How's it going with your 1100D?

Very nice color shot. One of my favourite areas.

Thanks Marc!

It's a great area for sure, it's tricky to process though. Reckon I looked at 100 different variations on the web before I processed.

Cheers,

Justin.

An interesting composition Justin ;) (see here (http://paulhaese.net/NGC6188andNGC6164.html)for mine many months ago, nearly the same scale). I like the colouring and the image looks smooth but the size is still a bit small.

Yep, your image is amazing, I've been looking at it quite a bit to get a handle on orientation. You certainly went deep on 6164. Just posted a larger image.

Cheers,

Justin.

Not doing anything at the moment, Justin. I will be layed up with a badly broken ankle for the next 3-4 months:(

Hi Justin,

A great looking photo.

Beautiful colours.

Good luck with the new coma corrector. My 8" F4 Vixen scope is still gathering dust in the garage.

Thanks Ross!

Pity your 8" is gathering dust, but it's frustrating when they won't behave.

Cheers,

Justin
