My first posting of a Nightscape.

Modded Canon 350d at 1600asa.

Terrestrial layer is with Sony a550 and 70-210 zoom at 105mm.

Processing with DeepSkyStacker and Photoshop CS2.

Thanks Justin. Yes, we need some fun sometimes.
This one is a bit tame...I might push things with the next one!

Thanks Carlos. Glad you like it.

Hi Kym,

Thank you.
This was from a rush trip to Mudgee one Saturday to get Comet Lemmon before it disappeared.

Thanks Marc.

Glad you like it Col.

A good idea is only an abstraction without artist impressions ...

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the appreciation and kind comments.

Combining Deep Sky Objects with terrestrial landscapes and objects using longer focal length lenses or even telescopes has been something I've been experimenting with for a while.

Hi Richard,

Thanks, glad you like it.

12 hours driving in 24 hours + imaging time...it was hard work!

Lovely shot indeed.

A bit of light painting on that wind mill would have went a long way. Super shot non the less.

Thanks for the kind comment Colin, I'm happy you like it.
It would be great to have a camera that takes it all in one shot, be it for nightscapes or for DSOs.
From the quality you and others are getting out of your full framne Canons and Nikons, I don't think that day is as far away as we imagine!

Glad you like it H.

Thank you.

Thanks Sandy. Glad you like it.
I agree, some detail on the windmill and the foreground would have looked good.
I'm new to this so maybe next time.

Thank you Chris.

Yes, I think you're right Ross. The current Canon 6D is good enough to try this style of shot at iso 12800. In fact I tried one the other month with Pleiades and Jupiter setting together over a lake at 100 mm. Still sitting in the processing backlog.

I have been checking out the latest Sony Full Frame DSLR, the A99.
It seems to have even lower noise than the Nikon and Canons.
Probably a bit expensive for me, but it does show the direction things are heading.
I have been experimenting using longer lenses (..up to 400mm..), combining landscapes with Deep Sky Objects, so I would love to see your 100mm shot of the Pleiades and Jupiter when you process it.
