Obliviates.

Not a strong movie. THe genre seems to have been done and rehashed many times now. Seems a mash up of several movie ideas (the end was reminiscent of Independence Day to me). I found it very predicatable - right from the beginning, I knew what/who Sally would be.

CGI was good, and very provocative.

5/10. Passed the time well enough, but not a movie I'll watch a second time.

What it had Tom Cruise in it

I loved it. But yes, one had to suspend one's judgment somewhat to fully enjoy it.

I didn't mind it , probably a one time viewing though for myself but would still rate it a respectable 6/10 . Thought Cruise played a good part , hopefully we get more sci-fi offerings :)

I really enjoyed it. Enjoyed the storyline and setting, and Tom did well. 7/10 from me. :D

The problem for me is the title... Oblivion.
For me Oblivion will always be an Elder Scrolls game...

It was great! Just enjoyed it for entertainment and didn't worry about the 'reality' of 'physics' of it all :)

Enjoyed the heck out of it. Some folks are hard to please. Not me. I'll buy it on DVD when it comes out too. Good one for the sci-fi collection.

Baz.

I just felt it was way to predicatable. No surprises, no intrigue. No post-film contemplation.

Prometheus, on the other hand, stays in my thought to this day, as flawed as it is. The premise of the stroy is significant and somewhat disturbing in some ways. I have watched Prometheus now 17 times, and EACH time glean a little more thought.

I've seen Prometheus three times, and not sure if I want/need to see it again, but I similarly find myself thinking about the story from time to time. Part of the problem, IMHO, is that it's too grandiose a story to comfortably pack into 2 hours. Another part is the de rigeur time/space compression that all sci-fi movies suffer from, but seems more problematic here given the scale of the story. And finally, the (you can almost hear the studio executives saying, "no, no, we need more gore and explosions") action and horror sequences aimed at the lowest common denominator and, consequently, even more implausible than usual.

I had this thought about Prometheus yesterday: the "big guys" are so white they're almost transluscent. Seeing as how homo sapiens evolved in Africa and originally hard darker skin, isn't that kinda racist?

I've yet to see Oblivion, but, given the reviews I've read, expect it'll be a two-view affair: cinema and, a long way down the track, a DVD rental.

I have the director's cut of Prometheus. I'm not sure I'll be watching again. I had big expectations when seeing it at the movies and left wanting to know more so not really disappointed. But now even with the extra explanations in the DVD I found the story line pretty messy and ultimately the whole thing fairly empty which is ironic.
