Hi All,

With the fullish moon up, I gave up on any deep sky and just tested out my new FCUSB and USB2EQ5 direct connect cable that I got for my birthday.

So I swung around to Saturn for a few captures. I forgot just how much disk space these videos take up. BAM, 10 Gb gone in 5 or 6 minutes.....

Anyway, here is a quick go at Saturn from 1334 UT, 1471 frames out of 1800 stacked (60 secs @ 30fps) using Registax 6, captured with DBK21AU618.AS and 5x Televue barlow on the 8" reflector (I assume at F25). Processed in Photoshop CS3 using Astra Image plugins for deconvolution.

Cheers

Thanks Justin,

I must admit, I keep looking at it, I think it's turned out the best one I have done on Saturn so far.

Although  I say that about a lot of equipment :)

Thanks Rod.

I agree!

The DBK on the C11 Edge HD would give awesome planetary goodness.

Good fun when the freaking moon is killing everything else.

Good job Chris, planetary imaging certainly creates lots of data.

Thanks Trevor, I need more aperture!!!!!! But this is pretty good for an 8 incher.....:P

Thanks Ralph! :D

I have added a repro, well sort of, I stacked 5 videos together, over 5200 frames just to see if it improves anything? Not sure, see what you all think, I may just still like the first one a bit more, I dunno?

Thanks Rob, I was just looking at Trevor's PB and saw the planet through the Cassini division on his, seems I have also got it here....:D I was wondering why the rings looked squashed where they crossed the disk, now I know. Yay!

Hi Chris. Nice effort mate. What codec did you use? I'm only asking because if it was Y800 + Y800 & you allowed Reggie to do the debayering, it uses a LOW quality algorithm & the result is a low quality final..

Hi John,

Thanks mate, I think it was RGB32? I definitely captured in colour and didnt debayer in Registax, so no worries there?

Hi Chris. I never did enough experimentation with the many codecs to choose from, but at the time IC capture kept crashing on me so I ended up leaving things alone.

According to my sources (Emil, creator of AS2 for example) it pays to stay clear of the official colour codecs & use the camera as intended; Y800 + Y800 & debayer after. In the early days my favorite was YUY2 + Unspecified & was producing great images in nice seeing & the only REAL difference I can see is that it takes half the time for programs like Registax or AS2 to process the Y800 data.

Hmmm, OK that sounds like a plan John.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a crack!
