Seems fitting on the eve of ANZAC day. 30 years this month the song I Was Only 19 written by John Schumann and performed by band Redgum. It has also has a re-release on iTunes.

Remember seeing them at The Footbridge Theatre during my uni days in the early 80s. A great song - thanks for the reminder.

Redgum's "I Was Only 19" and Eric Bogle's "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" (from 1971) have to be two of the most graphic songs of the horror of war and its effects on those who served.

The thought of that song still chokes me up. True stories have a way of getting to you that fiction never can.
